Call for Working Session

Dear APQI professionals,

We are pleased to announce that the APQI and CGEA program evaluation and accreditation SIG will hold a special joint working session on April 24, 2024 from noon to 2pm EST regarding LCME element 5.11 (https://wayne-edu.zoom.us/j/92247524536?pwd=MTRaU1hJNG1xd056c1A0OE55U1JzQT09&from=addon). Coming out of the APQI business meeting in Seattle, it was revealed that a vast majority of schools in attendance are currently carrying a citation for their student study and relaxation space (Element 5.11).  This presents a perfect opportunity for us as accreditation and quality improvement professionals to come together to share our individual experiences/practices in order to create a shared knowledge/skill base that we can then apply back in our own institutions.   Specifically, the session will be designed to:

  1. Share methods of conducting root cause analysis at our institutions.
  2. Discuss root causes and determine which causes are universal to medical schools.
  3. Delineate causes by SOM campus versus clinical sites. Additionally, explore regional campus differences.
  4. Based on the root causes, develop a set of common solutions.
  5. Discuss aspects of solution implementation including communication and project management.
  6. Develop strategies for ongoing monitoring of student satisfaction related to space use.
  7. Develop a series of recommendations of how element 5.11 could be restructured to be more objective.

The goal coming out of the working session would be to develop a white paper on the topic that could be widely disseminated via APQI so that we can all benefit from our collective knowledge.

We will be sending out a sign-up form in early 2024 for individuals that want to attend the working session.  What we need now are volunteers to help plan the session (e.g., methods for achieving the above objectives), deliver the session and assist in writing the white paper.
